Ferdie Catropa, age l2, of Bridgeport, Conn., for his question:
Where is Mount Aconcagua?
The highest mountain of the Western World stands in Argentina not far from the border of Chile. It is Mount Aconcagua, proudest peak of the lofty Andes. Its highest point, crowned with eternal snow, is 22,83+ feet above sea level, and geologists tell us that it once was at least l,000 feet higher.
Aconcagua has a volcanic history though no crater is left to mark the spot of fiery eruptions. This section of the great mountain collapsed and the vent leading up from its deep roots of molten magma was sealed long ago. The highest mountain of the New World is an extinct volcano.
