Welcome to You Ask Andy

Helen Fuentes, age 10, of Riverside, Calif., for her question:

HOW LARGE DOES THE BOBCAT GROW?

A North American wildcat that is closely related to the Canadian lynx is the bobcat. While the two animals look almost alike, the bobcat's tail is a bit longer; it has shorter ears and its feet are smaller.

The bobcat grows to be about 15 inches high at the shoulders. Its tail is about seven inches long. The sleek cat weighs between 15 and 25 pounds.

Bobcats have pale tan to dark reddish brown coats, depending on where they live. Those in dry areas are pale colored and those in damp, wooded areas are darker. All bobcats have dark spots.

You'll find bobcats living in bushy ravines as well as forests. They eat rabbits, squirrels, gophers and other small animals.
