Where do flies go in the winter time?

We do not see flies around in frosty winter weather. In the fall they find themselves cozy shelters and go to sleep until spring. Some hide in cracks in the walls$ others hide under the floor or in the rafters of the barn. None of these sleeping insects can stand the long weeks of winter frost without shelter. And most of them will perish from the cold before spring time.

A few mother flies will survive through the winter. They will wake up in the early spring and start laying their eggs. Each mother fly lays about 150 eggs which become fully grown flies in about two weeks. These young flies are now ready to lay eggs of their own. Suddenly the world is full of flies, flies and more flies.
