Welcome to You Ask Andy

Loretta Traniello, age 12s of Somerville, Mass. For her question;

What is the capital of Bolivia?

Bolivia is an inland country, high among the swooping shoulders of the Andes. It was named in 1826 for Simon Bolivar, who freed the territory from Spanish rule, In the same year, Jose de Sucre, one of Bolivar’s generals was made the first president of the new country. Sucre, the capital city of Bolivia, is named for its first president.

The largest city in Bolivia is La Paz, situated near a high mountain lake. Much of the country’s rich ore, mineral and forest wealth is brought to La. Paz, the center of business and commerce. La Paz, too, is the center of government business. Though the official capital is Sucre, most of the government buildings are in La Paz.
