Welcome to You Ask Andy

Are the stars really colored?

On a clear night, the stars all glow with a golden light. But when You look closely at individual stars, you will see hints of red, orange or pale primrose. This is not your imagination playing tricks. The distant stars are different colors.

A powerful telescope shows that some stars are brilliant red and some are rusty red. Some are yellow and others orange. Some are white, some blue and some of the distant stars are even green.
