Are ponds stocked with fish that fall in showers?

We often say that it is raining cats and dogs. Of course this does not mean that puppies and kittens are landing on the sidewalks from out of the clouds. No one believes this for a minute. But some people do seem to believe that a sharp shower drops frogs fish and other small creatures out of the skies. Actually  this isn't true either.

A summer shower brings moisture to a lot of thirsty creatures. Some of them have been hidden underground or in shady spots to save themselves from being dried out. These are the snails  frogs and other animals whose skins need damp air„ The shower will wake these fellows up and bring them out. They seem to appear from nowhere.

A sharp shower will also stir up the small creatures in the ponds and streams. Pond water tends to become stale arid. stagnant and streams tend to become muddy during the long dry spells. The raindrops bring fresh water and cool the streams. This wakes up the sleepy fish and small pond dwellers. They become very active all of the sudden. We just didn't notice them before. but they were there all the time. Certainly none of them arrived out of the clouds.
