Welcome to You Ask Andy

Marsha Kaddos age 12j, of‑Bridgeport, Conn. for her questions

What is it like, on the other side of the sun?

The face of the sun is always a brilliant golden disk. Of course it is far too bright for our eyes to look directly at it. No sensible person would think of doing that, but the face that looks down on us today seems to be the same face that shone on us last week, Actually, it isn't, for the sun is spinning around like a top, just as the earth is always spinning around like a top,

However the sun is made of gases, It does not all turn around at the same rate, It takes the sun's giant equator about 25 earth days to make one complete turn, Further from its equator the turning gases lag behind, near the poles it takes over 30 earth days to make one complete turn.

So we get a chance to see every side of the sun by turns in a month, every part of the sun has smiled on us at least once.
