Most ghosts are disappointing. They disappear in the daylight and we can find commonplace explanations for them. The ghostly fox fire which glows in the haunted forest with an eerie light, also disappears by day. And science tells us that it is caused by a very solid earthling.
Fox fire i s caused by saprophytic fungus plants which live on damp bark and decaying wood. In the respiration process, they release energy which becomes light. The pale glow can be seen in the gloom but is too dim to be seen by the bright light of day.
