Rusty Beckwell, age 16, of Casper, Wyo., for his question:

WHO ESTABLISHED THE FAHRENHEIT SCALE?

The Fahrenheit temperature scale was developed by German physicist Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit (1686 1736).

Fahrenheit also made the thermometer more accurate by using mercury instead of alcohol in the thermometer tube.

The scientist determined three fixed temperatures: zero degrees for the freezing point of salt water, 32 degrees as the freezing point of pure water and 96xdegrees as the normal temperature of the human body. Later experiments proved the body temperature to be 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

On the Celsius temperature scale, pure water freezes at zero degrees.
