WHO WAS BORIS KARLOFF?

Boris Karloff was a wonderful British actor who was well known for his chilling performances in American horror motion pictures. He usually played a monster or a villain in his movies.

Karloff first won fame as the monster in the 1931 movie "Frankenstein."

The popular Karloff made about 50 silent films and more than 100 sound pictures from 1919 until 1968.

The actor's real name was William Henry Pratt. He was born in London in 1887 and toured Canada and the United States with small theatrical companies for several years before making his film debut.

Karloff's best known motion pictures include "The Bride of Frankenstein" (1938), "Tower of London" (1939), "Body Snatcher" (1945) and "The Raven" (1962). He was in the Broadway plays "Arsenic and Old Lace" (1941) and "The Lark" (1955).

He died at the age of 82 in 1969.
