DOES THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING SWAY?

One of the world's taller buildings is the 102 story Empire State Building in New York City. In fa , from 1931 when it was completed until 1972 it was indeed the world’s tallest building.

The building is designed  so that it can sway during a strong windstorm. The building's steel strucaks a creaks slightly when heavy winds hit. Its greatest sway, however, wasn't very much. Itssway was 1.45 inches from the center, which happ    d during a wind of 100 miles an hour.

During an electric storm , the Empire State Building may absorb as many as 20 bolts of lightning. On top of the building is a 22 foot television tower.
