Shirley Stanfield, age 11, of Victoria,B.C., for their question;

How were the planetoids formed?

Our lovely earth has had, perhaps, three billion birthdays and she is still in the prime of her life. She was perhaps created with the Solar System, the suns family of planets, comets and meteor debris. But certainly there was no human reporter around to record the great event. And so far no scientific theory has been proved concerning how the Solar System was formed.

There are at least two theories as to how the planetoids were formed. One suggests that these countless lumps of matter circling the sun are debris left over from the creation of the planets. Another theory suggests that a planet once existed between Mars and Jupiter and, for some reason, it broke up into the bitsy planetoids. The truth of the matter is that nobody can prove how the planetoids were formed.
